Important Alert for Graduates from South African Tertiary Institutions: Directive regarding granting of Permanent Residence status in terms of Section 27(B) of the Immigration Act, 2002 (Act no 13 of 2002): Graduates from South African tertiary institution’s in the area of critical skills.

We received the information that the Directive regarding granting of Permanent Residence status in terms of Section 27(B) of the Immigration Act, 2002 (Act no 13 of 2002): Graduates from South African tertiary institution’s in the area of critical skills which was issued on the 21st of April 2016 is now implemented by the Department of Home Affairs.

What does the Directive say?

The Directive states that foreigners who studied in South Africa at a tertiary institution and graduated in the area of critical skills can now apply immediately for Permanent Residence, without providing the following:

  • the need of submitting a certificate from the professional body, council or board recognised by SAQA confirming the skills or qualifications,
  • acquiring five years’ post-qualification experience, or
  • the need to submit testimonials from previous employers.
